Rebtel, a VoIP company recently conducted a study with the help of Harris Interactive wherein they gave attention on what mode of mobile communication do the people prefer.

The study involved 2,300 respondents across United States and have scattered through different age groups. According to the report, a good 59% of the survey population still prefer voice calls over texting and instant messaging.

SMS was used by 40-60% of the respondents at least occasionally and a good number of them are slowly moving over to the social networking scene.

An announcement came from the mobile retailer Clove, saying that it will start selling the Motorola Defy+ on September 30th. The mobile store will be pricing the device for 249 GBP although it doesn’t say if this is an off-contract offer or an on-contract deal.

Anyway, the Motorola Defy+ sports a single-core 1Ghz processor and is fitted with a 3.7 inch touchscreen display. It’s got a built-in storage of 2GB with a slot for a microSD card. It will be running Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread out of the box.

The Motorola Defy+’s key feature is that it is designed to be a shock proof, dust proof and water proof which makes it a suitable device for the common adventurer.

AT&T’s John Stephens has confirmed today that the mobile service provider will turn the switch on to their LTE network on Sunday and will be made available to a total of  5 locations initially. This includes Chicago, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta and Houston.

AT&T also promises that this number will grow to 15 markets by the end of the year. The launch will be headed by the Acer Iconia Tab which is also launching this Sunday. And if you’re looking for a smarpthone, then you can expect the HTC Holiday to be the first 4G smartphone that will run on AT&T’s 4G LTE network.

Research in Motion has announced today an achievement that suggests that the BlackBerry App World is not as dead as others say. According to the announcement, their very own app store has reached over 1 billion downloads with over 3 million apps a day.

RIM’s own App store is two-years old and is available across 100 countries worldwide. It may not be as big as the iTunes App Store or the Android Market but 1 billion is still something to brag about.

On a different note, Research in Motion has also announced that it will be releasing 7 smartphones before the year ends.

HP might be swinging for the fence with their statement claiming that their upcoming range of webOS based tablets will become more popular than the iPad, but then again, so did Apple a few years back and look at it now.

Eric Cador, HP’s European head, said at a press conference that the company is looking to emulate their success in the PC market with their tablets.

This is a pretty big claim and it will surely require some kind of breakthrough or a maybe pretty good deal with their upcoming tablets if they want to make it into the business.

A research made by Epitiro reveals that consumers who employ WiFi technology in their houses lose 30% of their actual download speed and also a 10-20% increase in latency.

WiFi connectivity would affect every aspect of the internet service provided to you from online gaming, VoIP technology to downloading MP3 and video, all being degraded.

This is due to an indirect broadcast caused by physical barriers such as walls doors and furniture, something that a direct LAN would not have as it uses direct wires from the modem to the PC.

Although, the figures are a bit overwhelming, it is still not surprising that this problem would be observed by subscribers using WiFi.
